I would like to introduce you to my friend, "The Graduating Penguin"!! He is made out of rice crispy treats and covered in buttercream with fondant accents. He is sitting on two college books that are made of chocolate cake with butter cream and fondant details. This cake is for a sweet girl that is graduating from UT tomorrow! She loves penguins :-)
I hope she likes her cake! Congratulations, Natalie!

Monkey Madness
I just finished making these sock monkey cupcakes! It was my first time making these so, of course, I find imperfections all over the place when I look at them! Baking and decorating is all about trial and error, though, so I've definitely learned a few things for next time :-)
Happy Saturday!

Spring into Spring with cupcakes!
Well my little business is starting to grow! :-) I've decided I want to always stay a custom bakery because it offers a more personal relationship with my customers. My long term dream is to have a store front with a kitchen in the back that is only open to the public by appointment only. I want to use the space to do all my baking and to meet with customers for taste testings and consultations. It keeps the setting more personal and allows me to give them my undivided attention.
That being said, I have to get to the point that I'm successful enough to warrant paying a second mortgage on a storefront! So, in the mean time, I'm trying out a new marketing strategy. I'm learning how to use Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest as a means for getting my name out there. For the most part, though, I'm relying on referrals.
That brings me to today's order! I made cupcakes for a friend's birthday party last weekend and met a very sweet lady that works for a law firm downtown. She mentioned that her office orders desserts monthly for birthdays and special occasions and that she wanted to give me a try this month. What a great idea! How fun would that be to have the opportunity to get creative for the same group of people every month? So, for their first order, I decided to be a little risky and not go with the traditional flavors of cupcakes. Go big or go home!
The result? These delicious Springy cupcakes!! :-) I hope they like them!

Gooooo Rangers!
Happy Wednesday everyone! Last night, while watching the Ranger game of course, I whipped up a batch of Texas Ranger Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting! These are for the Fox Sports Southwest girls! I wanted to make something fun, baseball themed, and geared especially towards them. I hope they like these!
They will be delivered at noon, so we'll see if they tweet about it!
Follow them @FSSW_girls
Follow me @KellesCakes
Have a wonderful day and be sure to watch the Rangers play the Yankees in the final game of this series tonight at 7:05! I'll be there with Mr. Fraser to cheer them on! :-)

Mini Samples
Wow, what a long night last night! I made 6 batches of different frostings! That's a lot of sugar, people! The reason for the baking madness is the Taste Testing I'm doing today with one of my brides. I'm letting them sample 3 different cake flavors: Lemon, Red Velvet, and Chocolate. I am also giving them two different frosting options for the lemon cake(which will be the bride's cake): lemon cream cheese and lemon buttercream.
As most of you know, all I really need for the tasting is a slice of each cake. I just couldn't think of a nice way to package a slice, so I made 4in mini cakes! They are the cutest things ever! So tiny, yet simply mouthwatering at the same time.
Once these were all baked, you can imagine how much leftover batter I had, so I decided I would share with my office building at my full time job.
As you can see, there is an extra cupcake in the picture! This was a last minute addition by my sweet Granny. She requested a dozen Granny's Mudslide cupcakes for tonight! There was, of course, left over batter of this as well so I threw a few minis into my sample box :-)
I had so much fun sharing these with the different offices at work! I hope the bride and groom like them as much as the others did! :-) Fingers crossed!

Past Cakes
I officially started Kelle's Cakes on New Years Day 2012. Baking has been a hobby of mine since long before that, though. I want to share a few pictures from last year up until now. From now on, I will blog about all my orders and post pictures along the way! So, here we go! There's a bunch, just warning you :-)
Taste Testing tomorrow!!!
I'm so excited about my first taste testing for one of my brides tomorrow! I will also get to meet her for the first time, too! I did not have a taste testing for my wedding because we had a destination wedding so I don't really know how it's traditionally supposed to go. I threw around the idea of letting them taste test with cupcakes, but then they wouldn't get the "layer" effect and would be kind of small. I also thought I would just bite the bullet and make three full cakes and give them a slice of each, but that seems like such a waste of a big cake.
So what do we have here...it's a Goldilocks dilemma! What I finally decided on should be just right :-)
I'll post pictures tonight! :-)
